ANY HOSPITALS
have a separate nonprofit
entity called a foundation
that helps acquire necessary funds to
improve the hospital and provide health
care to the community. Memorial Hos-
pital Foundation is one such entity.
The Memorial Hospital Founda-
tion is the philanthropic arm of the
hospital that operates as a 501(c)(3)
organization. All contributions stay in
our local area to improve the lives of
our citizens.
By raising funds through grants,
private donations, fundraisers, etc.,
the foundation can meet the health-
care needs of the hospital and the
community.
Foundation successes in 2011
A grant acquired by the founda-
tion helped to purchase a 64-slice CT
scanner, which began operation
in April 2011. The scanner can gather
a high-resolution image of a heart,
brain or both lungs in less than
five seconds.
The Paint the Town Red Gala was
the foundation’s big event of 2011.
It raised funds used to purchase a
registration kiosk and a BiliSoft LED
Phototherapy System for newborns
with jaundice.
Project Pink was the foundation’s
awareness and fundraising campaign
in October in observation of National
Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
SEEDS (Sharing Every Employee's
Dedicated Spirit) is an employee giv-
ing program that began in September
2010. It raised over $7,000 from
hospital employees, funds that helped
purchase six pieces of hospital equip-
ment in 2011.
Looking ahead in 2012
The Boots & BBQ Gala will raise
funds to provide the hospital with a
new nurse call system. The new system
will give our nurses the tools they need
to respond quickly and efficiently to
patient calls and will help them moni-
tor response times. The system also
includes a quieter intercom, making
patient care areas more restful and
favorable to healing.
The foundation is in the process of
applying and finalizing more grants to
help fund community health programs.
Project Pink will kick off its third
annual breast cancer awareness and
fundraising campaign in October.
The Memorial Hospital Founda-
tion is committed to building goodwill,
encouraging community support, and
to conducting a philanthropic program
that will enhance the mission and ser-
vice of Manchester Memorial Hospital.
In support of equipment and programming to
build a stronger future for the people of Clay,
Jackson, Owsley and surrounding counties.
